Chadar Trek Ladakh – Frozen River, Height, Location, Distance
The Chadar Trek Ladakh is a winter trail in the Zanskar region of Ladakh, in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. Chadar Trek is famous by its name ‘Chadar’ because of the formation of the thick blanket of the snow. Chadar Trek is also considered as one of the tricky as well as challenging treks in the world.
Chadar Trek is not the most difficult trek but it seems challenging as it basically is a flat walk along the Chadar with minimal amounts of climbing.
Zanskar valley lies to the south – west of Leh, surrounded by the Himalaya and Zanskar ranges, which is the most isolated of all the trans – Himalayan Valleys. Zanskar comprises of two main valleys the Stod(Doda Chu) and the Lanak (Tsarap Chu)which coverage below at Padum.
Chadar Trek Height:
Its walls are near vertical cliffs up to 600 m high and the Zanskar River (a tributary of the Indus) is only 5 metres (16 ft) in places.

The best time to visit Chadar Trek January to February, when the temperature during the winters drops sometimes to -30 to -35 degrees.

Our Verdict: If you like adventures and love wandering you must go for this trek. Also its not very difficult but yes it will be a challenging trek for you. In some places, there may be cracks in the ice and when this happens, the only way to continue with the trek is to hike through the snowy rocks and boulders beside the river.
